Gradually, as we age, we recognize

a second journey waits on the horizon,

a journey beyond this world.

To prepare, we reminisce, let go,

wrap up affairs and say goodbyes,

subtly at first, then more directly.

Sensing a sea change

we await the ship that will 

take us across the great waters.

Light filters through the veil of sky.

We smile, laugh, cry, and trust.

Dissolving into love once again,

we know it will be glorious.

children’s laughter,

great storms at the window.

A world of wonder and transcendence.

Even the trials of mind and body bring you closer to the one light shining through everything.

It happens second by second by second.

The slow blossoming of something radically new 

growing in the field of losses.

It’s happening right now.

Can you feel it?

Past and future recede into mystery.

Even the trials of mind and body 

bring you closer to the one light

We don’t know what a single thing is

but we find its beauty everywhere

along this second-by-second path into God.

it’s about being ever closer

to life’s pure experience:

old bodies, slower thoughts,

sunrises and cold winds,

loving touch, timeless moments,

deep breaths, honest conversation,

and the steadily parting veil.

Telling the Truth

How do I tell family and friends

I have changed, 

the old me passed away and a new one seeks

only peace, quiet, and the simplicity of love?

Of course, “I” am still here, but in a new way.

Images of my aging grandmother,

sitting quietly in the garden,

draw me into the waiting stillness.

I offer my grandchildren 

her same unspoken presence,

resting in divine being.

The Next Stage in Aging

The “I Am God” state activates the next stage of spiritual evolution.

In aging’s deep space of sacred consciousness, we surrender the false self

into the living divine energy

of the cosmos,

touching everything,

blessing everyone,

 affecting the whole world.

Entering God’s  consciousness, love, and creativity,

we don’t so much change the world

as join the flow of its love.
